Job Summary

The HR Manager – Employee/Labor Relations will consult with management on employee relations, labor relations, HR policy, and equal employment opportunity issues. This role will ensure all human resources practices are in compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and relevant statutes. This position will report to the Senior HR Manager – Employee Relations.

Essential Functions

  • Provide expertise and guidance in strategy development as well as execution, planning, and facilitation of HR activities including labor relations, employee relations, and performance management
  • Coordinate the work and manage the performance of assigned Employee Relations practitioners
  • Consult with managers regarding the HR aspects of key business objectives including performance management and HR compliance
  • Facilitate resolution of disputes, employee issues, and concerns
  • Conduct investigations and coordinate disciplinary appeals processes
  • Partner with Regional Employee Relations Managers, HR head office functions, and the Legal department
  • Work collaboratively with other regional HR functions to ensure consistent application and interpretation of labor relations, employee relations, EEO, FMLA, ADA, and diversity policies and strategies
  • Review gaps or areas requiring attention including workflows, investigation reviews, and disciplinary action reports, and analyze other data sources to identify trends
  • Educate and coach management on HR best practices
  • Provide support in Labor Relations management and strategy to executives as needed
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and work as assigned

Required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong functional knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws including but not limited to Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and ADEA
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • General knowledge of HRIS systems
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information and data from multiple sources and summarize investigative findings concisely and clearly, both orally and written
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a highly professional manner and escalate issues when appropriate
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituent groups such as senior management and peers

 

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 3-5 years of employee/labor relations experience relevant to investigating allegations of harassment/discrimination and managing employee relations matters

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • PHR/SPHR accreditation

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated more than half the time
  • The person in this position may need to move about the store(s), distribution center(s), warehouse(s), and/or corporate office(s) less than half the time
  • The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) less than 15 lbs.
  • This position requires the ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors

 

Travel Requirements

  • This position commutes between regional offices/distribution centers less than 50% of the time within a day
  • Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train
