Job Title: Manager - Construction

Department: Construction

Business Unit: Central Service

Reports To: Director of Construction

Supervisory Role: No

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Job Summary

The Construction Manager is responsible for the design and construction of the physical structures needed to conduct Lidl US business including stores, distribution centers, offices, and special construction projects. This critical role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with required quality standards while also meeting the needs of the business. This position reports to the Director of Construction.

Essential Functions

  • Establish design parameters based on business needs
  • Manage design process from concept through construction
  • Lead project team consisting of design consultants, general contractor, and internal departments
  • Monitor project performance and follow standard procedures if performance falls below expected levels
  • Serve as principal liaison to internal stakeholders
  • Manage full entitlement and due diligence processes
  • Train or guide the work of other team members on occasion
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and MS Project)
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods, building codes, health and safety regulations and entitlement processes
  • Ability to quickly and accurately assess situations and apply appropriate solutions as needed
  • Excellent problem solving skills

 

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management required
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in related field required

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) less than half the time
  • The person in this position may need to move about the store(s), distribution center(s), warehouse(s), and/or corporate office(s) less than half the time
  • The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) 15 – 40 lbs.
  • This position operates machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex: typing, sweeping, slicing deli meat, operating the Point of Sale system, etc.) less than half the time
  • This position requires the ability to spend less than half the time viewing computer monitors
  • This position is exposed to hazard/chemical materials less than half the time
  • This position is exposed to outdoor weather conditions less than half the time
  • This position is exposed to non-climate controlled workspace(s) less than half the time
  • The person in this position must be able to identify and distinguish between colors all of the time

 

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires overnight domestic travel less than 25% of the time
  • Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train
