Job Title: Manager - Quality Assurance

Department: Quality Assurance

Business Unit: Purchasing

Reports To: Quality Assurance Senior Manager

Supervisory Role: Yes

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager manages QA daily processes and executions, staff, and provides support to senior leadership.

Essential Functions

  • Recognize criteria and issues from QA processes
  • Execute QA process tasks
  • Communicate internally with other departments and between team and leadership
  • Maintain relationships with external business partners
  • Review of reports, cases, and tests and communicate to relevant internal and external parties
  • Manage and solve challenges independently
  • Communicate effectively with external service providers, stakeholders, business partners, and customers
  • Develop departmental policies and procedural workflows
  • Engage with internal partners to promote and further QA
  • Perform research and investigate complex and highly-technical product issues
  • Support hiring process
  • Manage and train staff and if applicable, other teams
  • Oversight of project assignment and work delegation of QA sub-department or other departments
  • Ensure execution of QA processes and QA standards are maintained
  • Identify training needs and provide effective performance management
  • Prepare, review, and communicate reports to senior leadership
  • Solve escalations from direct reports
  • Train or guide the work of other team members on occasion
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of principles and methods of food science, physics, chemistry, and biology; consumer products regulations, production processes, and quality assurance practices; and the retail industry
  • Knowledge managing, supporting, training, developing a team
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage projects and teams


Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • Graduate degree required
  • 3 – 5years of experience in related field required
  • In lieu of degree, 5 – 7 years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above


Physical Job Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary (standing and/or seated) position more than half the time
  • The person in this position may need to move about the store(s), distribution center(s), warehouse(s), and/or corporate office(s) less than half the time
  • The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) 15 – 40 lbs.
  • This position operates machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex: typing, etc.) all of the time
  • This position requires the ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors
  • This position is exposed to hazard/chemical materials less than half the time
  • The person in this position must be able to identify and distinguish between colors less than half the time


Travel Requirements

  • This position commutes between regional offices/distribution centers less than 25% of the time within a day
  • This position requires overnight domestic travel less than 25% of the time
  • This position requires overnight international travel less than 25% of the time
  • Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train




Preferred Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • HACCP manager certification preferred
  • PCQI certification preferred
