Job Summary

Manager - Purchasing (Category Management) is responsible for leveraging market and shopper research to identify key opportunities within the organization, and answer strategic business questions to drive turnover, increase market share and enhance the brand perception of Lidl U.S.   

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for being the “voice of the shopper” to aid the organization in the implementation of shopper insights that drive strategic growth 
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research to understand the purchase and lifestyle behavior of the customer
  • Develop shopper marketing strategies that promote category expansion and brand growth
  • Interpret, apply and communicate consumer insights derived from utilizing panel provider platforms 
  • Partner with key departments including Marketing, Promotions, Buying, Controlling and P&D to support and activate insights for organizational initiatives
  • Analyze and communicate market changes and competitor development 
  • Support the Head of Category Management to develop and implement strategies and cross departmental projects
  • Build comprehensive, strategic presentations to be viewed and leveraged by board level leadership
  • Communicate with international Category Management counterparts on global/ country projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

  • Strong multitasking abilities, flexibility, and patience in a fluid environment where priorities change and methodologies are continually challenged
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel & Word 
  • Experience transforming data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills with a professional attitude
  • Excellent analytical skills 
  • Ability to develop strategic presentations for upper management 
  • Ability to influence others while working cross functionally

 

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Marketing/Business/Economics/Social Sciences)
  • 3+ years of professional experience
  • 2+ years of market & shopper research or comparable experience

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced working environment, including the store(s), distribution center(s), warehouse(s), and/or corporate office(s) with the capability to switch job functions/roles quickly
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) more than half the time
  • Ability to maneuver cases of product (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) up to 30 lbs. 
  • Ability to operate machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists
  • Ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors
  • Ability to identify and distinguish between colors more than half the time

 

Travel Requirements

  • This position may require overnight domestic travel less than 25% of the time 
  • Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train
