Job Title: Senior Manager - Tax

Job Summary

The Senior Manager - Tax is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and the tax department while ensuring timely compliance with all fiscal tax laws, statutory notices, and orders to which the company must be in adherence. Additionally, this position provides support to other departments and upper management in response to tax-relevant issues. This role ensures the company remains in good standing with all federal, state, and local authorities.

Essential Functions

  • Overview the professional development and management of the tax professionals
  • Develop department policies and procedures to ensure the adherence to Company guidelines
  • Responsible for communicating all filings and potential risks to the executive level
  • Manage all aspects of the preparation and timely completion of tax filings submissions, accompanying documents, notifications, and other tax-related correspondence
  • Manage tax planning calendar to ensure all tax filings are executed in an effective manner
  • Analyze and communicate the tax implications of operational business processes and/or transactions to relevant parties
  • Define, document, and implement necessary tax-related policies and procedures, including tax processes and key-user functions for tax-relevant systems
  • Communicate and coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors as required
  • Report to management regarding the various tax positions of the company
  • Advise management about issues such as tax strategies, resource utilization, and the assumptions underlying forecasts
  • Represent the company before taxing authorities and provide support during litigation involving financial issues
  • Stay abreast of legal developments and industry positions in order to accurately evaluate options and responses to requests for information from management and government officials
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Expert knowledge in state and local credits and incentive concepts and tools
  • Expert knowledge of real property and business personal property tax concepts
  • Ability to clearly communicate goals and motivate internal and external business partners
  • Strong management experience with demonstrated leadership in developing effective teams, including hiring and mentoring staff
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP, US federal, state, local taxation regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (emphasis on Excel)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-ask and delegate duties in an efficient manner
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities

 

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Taxation
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • In lieu of degree, 9+ years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above
  • Prior supervisory experience

 

Preferred Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • CPA, MST or tax law background
  • Knowledge and familiarity with financial accounting
  • Experience working in public accounting or large corporate environment

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced working environment, including the store(s), distribution center(s), warehouse(s), and/or corporate office(s) with the capability to switch job functions/roles quickly
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) more than half the time
  • Ability to maneuver cases of product (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to operate machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists
  • Ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors
  • Ability to identify and distinguish between colors more than half the time

 

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires overnight domestic travel less than 25% of the time
  • Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train
